We warned you it was coming, and now it’s finally here! Check out #PaganiniProject and follow along as pianist (and Rosebrook Classical Client) Jade Simmons brings you behind-the-scenes and shows you everything that goes into a major recording project. Jade begins the first phase of her recording sessions for her second release The Paganini Project this coming weekend in New Orleans. She’s bringing you photos, stories, and videos about the lead-up this week, and we’ll even be live on the scene this weekend to do some live streaming and more. So if you’ve ever wondered what goes into a major classical recording, now’s your chance to find out!

Some of examples of what you’ll get:
A lot can happen when you dare to stick your head in a piano. On the Electronic variations, I wanted to add percussive effects but I wanted everything other than the electronic beats themselves to come from the piano and its insides. My best discovery? I found out you could make a rim shot sound by hitting the long stick up against the lid of the piano while the lid is down. You have to wait for it in the video! Most frustrating thing? The Cd I’m playing along to kept skipping everything time I knocked the piano too hard! I will also use an old Wurlitzer Electronic piano for some of the improvisations but I wanted the sound effects to stretch the limits a bit. For the curious, that scarf is from Russia. Thank you Alexandra (Sasha) Fedina for getting it for me this summer!
Next week, maybe I’ll tell you the story of how Roburt Reynolds and I met. For now you just need to know we work well together and on this pre-session rehearsal, a week before we head to Piety Street Studios, we’re slamming things out in record time. In this vid, we’re working on just 2 of the 5 beats we’ll be using for the CD. During the sessions next weekend, we’ll bring you live feed so you’ll hear more of the music I’m so excited to introduce you to and you’ll see more of how Rob and I interact. For now, watch a beat happen.
And that’s just a taste…
